🐅 IT'S JONSEY DAY!!!!! It's finally here. Mr Jonsey is up for adoption!!! 🐅 I actually never thought I'd see the day. I really thought this former unsocial grumpy bum would live his retirement years with us. However he is now a toothless, patting loving, sometimes costume wearing, okay to be held for short periods of time lovely boy that is looking for a forever home. WOOP! 🙌🏻 If you saw "Jonsey's Journey" (a 3 part series here and on our Instagram @adoptmkc) you'll know how far he's come and how he's really turned into a cat that we actually see being adopted and having a chance for that happily furever after. 3 years ago when we rescued him weren't even sure he'd survive. The street life was tough for poor Jonsey. By the time he was trapped he was a shell of himself, weighing next to nothing with a gnarly nash on his side and the saddest face you've ever seen. He was so lucky to have foster carer Mary that nursed him back to health and spent years faithfully by his side convincing him that we are good humans and you should trust us 🥰 Now instead of greeting you with a hiss, he will greet you with a mini head butt because he finally knows that pats are GREAT. He is very easy going and isn't a crazy energetic cat. He loves sunny spots and his favourite bed. He goes CRAY for roast chicken. Jonsey would literally own a chicken shop if he could 🐓 He would love a quiet home where he will continue to thrive and be the best version of himself. He is still a little shy at times but jumping up to the comfort of his bed makes it all better. Jonsey literally doesn't mind other cats at all and has shared spaces with them with no problem at all 😊 So who will it be that takes on this legendary MKC cat? If you are interested in meeting Jonsey then please fill out our enquiry form in the link below 👇🏻 https://mkc.org.au/adoptionenquiry Name: Jonsey Age: 6 years Location: Gladesville Vet work: Desexed, microchipped & vaccinated and up to date flea and worm treatments. This is why you sponsor MKC. This is what is happening in Australia, right now, and in our inbox. If there is one thing you can do, it is please . .share this message. Please donate to help MKC here - https://mkc.org.au/donate/ Jiminy's owner is moving. So they booked in their cats to be put to sleep. The first one was put to sleep on the weekend and the second one was booked in today. Just take a minute to take that in. The vet involved was desparate. Can you imagine doing this. The owner said they had tried contacting rescue but no one would take them. He was booked in this morning. We got the message last night. His sister is already been put to sleep. It was his turn this morning. So the vet reached out to MKC as a last effort. By a pure fluke, and it really was a fluke, we saw that message amongst the 20 others BEGGING for us to take cats. As we started respondiing, 3 more messages arrived. The owners of this cat were moving overseas, the clock was ticking and the vet was absolutely heartbroken. We were the last chance. He was the first patient this morning and would be dead by morning tea. So we moved heaven and earth to take him. This is not easy. The vets need to convince the owners to surrender. Many times an owner literally will not, they will demand that the vets euthanase a perfectly healthy cat. Because "if I cant have him, no one can" Read that bit again. But in this case, the vets had already been working that conversation. Build up the trust. We wouldnt have to pretend to slip this one out the back this time. He would be rescued clean. Read that bit again. The bit about how vets sneak the cats out that the owners bring in to kill. That . . .fn . . . happens. By 9pm we had a transporter ready to get him. Joy, the super transporter took the case, and we had to get there behind the scenes to make the evac. Please donate to help MKC here - https://mkc.org.au/donate/ Joy was straight there. Boom. Says Joy "He is a gentle lad who shows no signs of wanting to inflict harm on any human or the vet cat. He has a frequent run of soft plaintive meows with the occasional loud protest. He will allow cuddles but won’t make eye contact if he can avoid it. I’m so glad he’s with MKC now although I think it may take him time to feel safe" When we were helping this case last night, another person contacted and said "we may as well be drowning cats" because we hadnt helped her yet. This is rescue. They do mean it. Just keep going. Please donate to help MKC here - https://mkc.org.au/donate/ We are grateful to the vets and vet nurses that have to do this every day, the rescuers that deal with this every day and the people who try, try, try to rehome their cats. We are grateful to our donors and supporters. If there is one thing you can do, it is please . .share this message. We need it to be seen everywhere. We need people to know this. This is what is happening, in Australia . . right now. If you need to rehome your cats . . dont contact rescuers. You are one of HUNDREDS asking. Contact EVERYONE ELSE. Your friends, family, advertise, neighbors, work colleagues. THINK ABOUT IT. People who arent being asked all day to take cats. Rescuers dont have the space, and if they do, they dont.) Thank you for saving Jiminy and supporting MKC. Thank you to the vets involved. We have kept the names out of this.
Every time rescue is asked to take an owner surrender, that one kitten they found, a sick stray on the streets- we have to somehow try to make room on our little raft for that cat. When an owner says stuff like “I don’t have time to give them the best life” or “I have to move” or “they have too much anxiety” or it really falls flat because that means if we bring them on the raft, another cat out there in the freezing water gets to die. Every day in rescue we adjudicate life and death by gate keeping who can get on the boat. Rescues and shelters are the tiny rescue boats. The ship is our community at large. The iceberg is comprised of careless owners, backyard breeders, and a$$hats who won’t spay/neuter or people that push the guilt onto already exhausted and overloaded rescues. Let us not forget all the homeless animals on the streets trying to survive until they either die or rescued. Please, please before you reach out to any rescue ask yourself ‘Have I exhausted all avenues to help the cat?’ ‘What can I offer the rescue to help out?’ ‘Could I offer assistance of having the cat desexed, vet work upto date? Sadly there are cases where rescues genuinely cannot help and offer alternative groups to reach out to. If this is the case do not abuse the group that can’t help because believe us we feel absolutely terrible. To all other rescues please take care of yourselves and each other - we understand the burn out is real. Your MKC team 🐾 ❤️

🐾 💗Available for Adoption: Meet Coco! 💗🐾 Due to a change in his owner’s circumstances, this gorgeous boy is looking for a new forever home. Coco is an 8-year-old purebred Ragdoll, complete with registration papers. He’s in great health and up to date on all vaccinations, flea treatments, and worming. This chilled-out kitty loves soaking up the sun and is completely house-trained. He enjoys both wet and dry food and is mostly quiet—unless he’s letting you know it’s mealtime! While he adores cuddles, he’s equally happy just lounging around, embracing his role as the King of the House. 👑 Coco gets along well with kids and dogs, and while he hasn’t been tested with other cats yet, his easygoing nature suggests he could adapt well with a proper introduction. A mystery in progress. Can you help? We were contacted today about these two kittens, asking if we have adopted them out. A bit of a weird one. Anyway, they are not with us. The story goes that the kittens were left with a foster carer by a mystery rescue organization about a year ago. If you want to help this lady, please click here to read the story and comment directly to her. https://www.facebook.com/jane.clarke.12/posts/pfbid02vQDPYdVn1doSv3DFVJEAGgyZRJjKQJr632ZqUjowEYK4Lo5s7YLhj1WtW9WCB2BRl The foster carer doesnt know who the organization was she was fostering for. Then after a year of fostering (and not hearing from the organization for 10 months) she tried to adopt them. (I know this sounds strange, but this happens a lot. Someone puts a post on the internet asking for carers, but there is no paperwork and they don't hear back from them for a long time) They were taken off her and rehomed when she asked to adopt them. No idea who too or how. Someone thought it was through "Amy at Kitty Rescue". That's why we got contacted. Popular name. Click through to read the full bizarre story. https://www.facebook.com/jane.clarke.12/posts/pfbid02vQDPYdVn1doSv3DFVJEAGgyZRJjKQJr632ZqUjowEYK4Lo5s7YLhj1WtW9WCB2BRl Anyone who knows normal rescue knows this isnt legal. We all have to identify the animals we have in care and the foster carers in our teams under the NSW Government rules. This is a mystery, it's very puzzling. But we dont have these cats, nor do we have an Amy. If you have any information to help the poor lady (Jane) who is in this post attached please click through to her post and offer your ideas or support. This is the weirdest one we have had in a while. I cant find a puzzled emoji to describe this one. https://www.facebook.com/jane.clarke.12/posts/pfbid02vQDPYdVn1doSv3DFVJEAGgyZRJjKQJr632ZqUjowEYK4Lo5s7YLhj1WtW9WCB2BRl
🚨 Anyone in these suburbs 🚨 This is too good not to jump onto especially coming into kitten season Well done to Canterbury Bankstown City Council
From the RSPCA NSW. “RSPCA NSW supports legislative intent of the new Puppy Farm Bill, but urges amendments for stronger breeding protections in NSW. The Bill aims to strengthen the regulatory framework for dog breeding in NSW. It's stated intention is to regulate dog breeding, and the advertising of dogs for sale or other transfer and RSPCA NSW has always advocated for robust statutory protections for breeding animals in NSW. The Bill, known as The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Amendment (Puppy Farm) Bill 2024, was introduced to the NSW Parliament on Thursday, October 24, 2024, and is scheduled for further debate during the current Parliamentary sitting. If passed, it will take effect in three stages between November 2024 and December 2035. While the move to regulate breeding is a positive step, this Bill falls short of properly and effectively promoting the welfare of dogs and cats and, in some areas, fails to protect cats altogether. Legislative protections must extend also to cats to address the welfare risks associated with intensive breeding practices. RSPCA NSW urges the NSW Government and all parliamentarians to consider further amendments that will strengthen protections and address the welfare needs of these animals. “ To read more, visit our website via the link below:

🐮 Available for adoption: Too good to be true! It's Toby! 🐮 It's TOBY-WEEN 🎃🦇 From here on out we will only celebrate Tony-Ween and instead of trick or treat we will offer treats to any kitty who wears a Halloween costume! Toby has always been the bridesmaid, but never the bride 😭 he is continually adored by every adopter that meets the cats but hasn't yet been adopted. Is it that he's a kitten but he's had his growth spurt so bigger than smaller "cuter" ones? Maybe he doesn't have the prettiest coat that others? Either way, he is an absolutely angelic boy who will make your life brighter and happier ❤️ Toby is GREAT with other cats, likes kids and could also be a solo boy (as long as you're not out for long hours because he just adores love and affection!) And NOW we can tell the story!! This is Constable Abbey from St Mary's police. .. and she is at our vets, with our transporter with the kittens she saved going into foster! 2 days ago we were made aware of kittens left in a box in Colyton, with a sign "free kittens". We put the job up in the transport tam, this is a hard one as the time of day and randomness was not in our favour. Claire, the awesome mega transporter took the run. Drove the 45 min to the site. Got there . No kittens. But the owner said the police had come and taken them. (Sidenote., that in itself is a story. Police rescued these kittens before someone took them and did something bad). So Claire popped into the police station, and followed through as the Constable (who knows her way around cat care) took them home overnight via the vet so they were ok for food. The next day, here we are. Claire went back and met this awesome lady, the kittens and the team at St Mary's, then the police and carers all went to the vet and the rest is history. This is one of hundreds of stories that happen in rescue every day. It is every day hero's who take action that get this done. We are so freaking grateful for super transporter Clair and Constable Coleman for going out of their way to save these kittens and to the wonderful lady that let us know about them. FIP is treatable and here is proof. Little FIP Warrior Grimace has made it to the half-way mark for his treatment. You can donate and support Grimace here www.mkc.org.au/donate Our beautiful sweet boy is doing remarkably well. Grimace has shown no signs of further infection. He has an excellent appetite and scoffs down food. He recently broke the 3kg mark and looking at his glossy grey coat you would think he was a normal healthy 6 month old kitten. Grimace is on GS-441524 Suspension and with his weight gain the dose required has increased, so we are about to purchase has 3rd bottle. The little fella is not a fan of being medicated, but Foster Mum Kell has been able to come to an “understanding” with him with the aid of Dine Creamy Treats. Grimace is a very happy, active and cheeky little fella and we want you all to join us wishing him continued good health ❤️
